New accessories for Max

Yesterday, Max got braces for his legs. The main goal is to develop an arch on his flat feet, which would make it easier for him to walk. When they first put them on him, he protested quite a bit because it forces his foot into a position that's pretty uncomfortable for him. I was a little nervous about whether or not he'd get used to them, but it didn't take long. He now wears them all day without any complaint! I'm so proud of Max for working so hard, and looking forward to the day he walks by himself. I had a moment of weakness yesterday after a conversation with his therapist about whether or not he will walk. I left Shriner's feeling pretty upset and started playing with the idea that, for the sake of my emotions, just accepting the fact that Max will be in a wheelchair the rest of his life. I felt like the ups and downs were driving me mad and preventing me from doing my job as a mom. I was reprimanded quite a bit when I spilled my guts to Matt last night. He helped me realize that I need to have more faith because Max WILL WALK if we want him to. I now believe that he will with all my heart. I'm so grateful for Matt, for his determination and strength. We have a pretty special boy to raise, and I could not be more thankful for that.

I am so inspired by Max. He is such a light to my days, and he has the most amazing spirit. He is so smart, and he could make even the most unpleasant person crack a smile. I could go on and on about Max Alan, but my point is that he is who he is because of you, Nan. Max is as lucky to have you as much as you are to have him.

Maryann,
You inspire me! You need to give yourself more credit though. You have a lot of determination and strength too; if not, you wouldn't have been blessed with a child as special as Max. He truly is blessed to have the two of you as parents.
